What can you do with a major in English? What can’t you do? Among our alumni we have a professor of surgery and a research biologist; an inventor of magnetic poetry and a inventive humorist; a NASA staff engineer, an actor, and a dancer/choreographer; librarians, lawyers, and literature professors; scriptwriters, high school teachers, and leaders of commerce. To list a few options.
If you are looking for specific information or advice about careers, visit the Career and Community Learning Center (CCLC), located in 135 Johnston Hall. CCLC is the career services office for liberal arts students. They offer individual appointments with career counselors, events, career classes, interest assessments, and a well-stocked Resource Room for you to browse. Online, see What Can I Do With a Major in English?, which includes job titles of and information about specific English alumni, and the CLA Mentors Program, which pairs undergraduates with professionals from various fields.
