"Skimming the Surface: Improvements in the Quality of Syntactic Descriptions for Stylistics," ITL: Review of Applied Linguistics, 52 (1981), 55-73.

This article describes programs which analyze the basic syntactic output from the EYEBALL parser to determine fine-grained syntactic features such as the voice, mood, and tense of verbs, the constituent structures of nominal and verbal phrases, and the basic structures of clauses. A sample analysis of the most frequent types of verb phrases in two poems by Coleridge illustrate how the programs might be used.
