Creative Writing

Workshops in poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, and screenwriting are at the heart of the Department of English’s Creative Writing Program, which offers a slate of classes for both undergraduate and graduate students. Courses in the Reading as Writers and Topics in Creative Writing series enable writers to explore a variety of issues relating to contemporary themes in American and world literature. The Creative Writing Program encourages experimentation across genres, fostering the discovery of new and varied forms for a developing voice.

Since 1996, the Department of English has offered the Master of Fine Arts degree for students committed to pursuing the writing life. For more information on classes, events, and the M.F.A., visit the Creative Writing Program.
